Final fitness doubts over quartet

Cefn Druids will be leaving the announcement of  their starting line-up for Saturday’s Welsh Cup until the last possible moment as a defensive quartet face late fitness tests.

Robbie James, Adam Hesp, Marc Griffiths and Joe Price will all be assessed on the day about whether they will be able to start against The New Saints.

Teenage trio Jack Edwards, Ian Hughes and Lewis Jones will be drafted into the squad, and manager Huw Griffiths praised Reserve Team manager Geoff Williams for their development throughout the season.

Griffiths said: “Geoff has been absolutely magnificent this season. I cannot compliment him enough as I think he has been brilliant.

“He has been a huge ally to me and the staff in sending through young players when he has felt they are ready.

“He has sent through several players who have stepped up to make the first team this season and it will be a great experience for the three young lads.

“It will also be a fantastic endorsement for the youth policy at Cefn Druids as Chris Mullock, Adam Hesp and Joe Price all progressed through the club.”

Griffiths admitted that the task facing his side is likely to be a tough one, but he is determined to plot a course for victory to lift the cup.

He said: “TNS are the best team in Wales bar the likes of Swansea and Cardiff. For us to get anything they will have to underperform and ten or eleven of our players will have to have their best game.

“There are lots of twists and turns which will happen. We are going to impose ourselves as much as possible. We are not going there just to let them lift the cup.”

The Druids boss added: “I am under no illusions that we might not get the ball into their penalty area that much, and it might be in ours quite a lot. But it is up to us to be strong in both boxes like we were at Aberystwyth and Prestatyn.”

He continued: “But the most important thing for us is that our players enjoy and remember the day. I am sure that any club in Wales would want to swap places with us tomorrow by being in the Welsh Cup Final being in Europe next season.

“As long as they all stand up for themselves then nobody at the club can ask for any more.

“What we have achieved has been nothing short of fantastic. It shows the character we have in the team. The lads we have all want to be here and are enjoying their football.

“That’s the size of the achievement we have had here this season.”
