Jones admits to selection dilemma for Sheffield trip
NEWI Cefn Druids will be taking a squad reduced squad to Sheffield as the oldest team Wales take on the oldest team in the world.

The Ancients will be taking a squad of 16 players to the Coach & Horses Ground, with most of the players getting a minimum 70 of minutes under their belts.

Joint player-mananger Lee Jones admitted that having whittled down the squad to cross the Pennines hasn't pleased everyone.

"There's a lot of disappointed players," he said. "We had 26 or 27 training on Thursday night but we need to get players getting more minutes under their belts.

"Those who don't play at Sheffield will play on Wednesday (at Holywell Town)," he added. "There are another 18 or so players we could have chosen from."

Jones continued: "It was tough to break down the squad to take, but we would rather have that problem.

"There is a lot of quality in our squad and I would think some managers would be jealous of what we've got.

"We've made some good signings in Nicky Ward, Lee T Jones and Joe Feeney.

"I just hope we can get it right."

Jones added that, once again, the players will be given the chance to express themselves during Saturday's game.

He said: "We'll be giving them basic instructions and be looking at certain things.

"I asked for the squad to do five things in the first half and five in the second and they did that well.

"We want the players to work as we want them to. We had the problem last season where some of them were playing for themselves."

He added: "If they don't want to work as we want them to, they can find another club.

"We've already had a couple of players who aren't happy but there is no sentiment in football. If someone plays better then they will be in the team.

"Things look positive for the start of season, but there will be a lot of disappointed players.

But that is our job as managers. If I was fit I wouldn't be playing as Nicky and Joe are playing well."

Jones hopes to get more news on his injury when he visits the specialist late next week."
