Druids edge nearer to promotion dream
NEWI Cefn Druids Reserves had to twice come from behind to earn a narrow victory that edges
them nearer to their promotion dream.
Gary Tebble had twice levelled for Brian Manford's side before Joe Price continued his recent fine form by netting the winner for a Druids side which had two changes from Tuesday's comprehensive victory over Hawarden Rangers. Matthew Cook missed out as a result of the blisters he received during that match and Khoz Hematinafar was rested. Chris Buxton and Michael Taylor replced them in the starting line-up.
There was an air of bad luck when Garden Village took the lead for the first time.
Jack Smith's backpass bobbled just as goalkeeper Chris Mullock was about to clear his lines, allowing the visiting forward to nip in and put the ball into the back of the net.
Tebble was on hand to level the scores with a clinical finish before The Ancients were again behind after a cross evaded Mullock and the visitors had the simple chance to put the ball into the empty net.
Not to be undone, though, Tebble levelled once again with another fine finish.
Druids took the lead for the first and, crucially, only time with ten minutes to go thanks to Price's effort with ten minutes remaning.
At the time of writing, results from Thursday night's other matches were unkown and Manford was hoping that they had gone in favour of his side.
"Hopefully we've closed the gap at top," he said. "But it does take us closer to gaining promotion."
